All of Christ, for All of Life, for All of Richmond
We are a reformed church meeting at 307 Front Street, in Richmond, Maine.
Our first public worship service will be October 19, 2025, @10am.
Our Beliefs
Articles of Faith
The most important thing about a church is what it believes. Historically, churches have used creeds and confessions of faith to summarize biblical teaching and clearly identify what they believe. All of our members embrace the historic Christian faith as articulated in the Nicene Creed (381).
We have also adopted a revised version of the New Hampshire Confession (1853) and the London Confession (1689) as our doctrinal standards, meaning that our elders teach in accordance with these confessions and our members sincerely agree to learn from everything taught therein.
Membership Covenant
While our articles of faith summarize what we believe and teach, our membership covenant summarizes how we intend to live together. Our acceptance of this covenant follows the practice of believers throughout the centuries who have pledged to God and one another to live out the gospel in community.
Core Commitments
Our core commitments reflect immovable aspects of our church life together and describe our doctrinal and philosophical emphasis as to how we function as a church.
Our Worship
Pattern of Worship
Our worship on the Lord’s Day follows this pattern:
Adoration: We join all creation in offering praise—through word and song—to the Triune God who created and upholds the universe.
Confession: In the light of God’s majesty, our darkness is exposed. We kneel together to confess our sin and unworthiness, asking God for mercy. The scriptures are then read which remind us of the forgiveness God offers in his son, Jesus Christ, to those who believe.
Thanksgiving: After being reminded that our sins are forgiven, we give thanks to God through word and song, followed by offering our financial gifts to him.
Pleading: Having given thanks for what God has done for us, a pastoral prayer is offered for the needs of the church and for those who are suffering. The congregation then laments through word and song over the pain and death found in this world. We then pray the Lord’s Prayer together, as Christ taught us.
Instruction: Once we have brought our requests to God, we enter into a time of instruction in the Christian Faith. The congregation recites one of the ancient creeds (such as the Apostles’ Creed or Nicene Creed) to remind us of the essentials of the faith that have been believed in every generation of Christian history. A pastor then delivers a sermon, which is typically part of a passage-by-passage study through a book of the Bible.
Communion: We then move into the climax of the worship service when believers are invited into communion with the Lord Jesus himself through the partaking of the bread and the cup, reminding us of his crucifixion on our behalf.
Commissioning: Finally, the church is reminded of her mission in the world and how she is to conduct herself. This time is brought to a close when we sing the Doxology together and a prayer of benediction is offered by a pastor.
Congregational Participation
We are convinced that worship on the Lord’s Day should be marked by participation of the congregation, rather than a stage performance by a select few. Because of this, we speak and sing the Scriptures together; we kneel and confess our sins together; we lift our hands in thanksgiving together; we lament together; and we partake in holy communion together.
